June 4 (15:00~17:30) / The Westin Josun Seoul
Africa's current emphasis on enhancing vaccine manufacturing capacity aligns with the urgent imperative highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic to bolster global health security and address disparities in vaccine access and healthcare infrastructure within the continent. The Africa CDC's Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM) aims to domestically produce 60% of Africa's vaccines by 2040, necessitating comprehensive projects spanning vaccine development processes. Recognizing the multifaceted challenges in vaccine development, international collaboration is increasingly advocated to strengthen manufacturing capabilities and health security in Africa. The Republic of Korea emerges as a crucial partner, given its commitment to global health security and expertise in vaccine development. The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) plays a pivotal role in driving end-to-end projects, collaborating with African partners to address critical gaps in vaccine research and development. At this side event, IVI, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), and the Africa CDC, along with the RIGHT Foundation and Kenya AIST and vaccine manufacturers, including EuBiologics, will showcase successful initiatives, programs, and best practices in collaborative vaccine development, deployment, and public health interventions between Korea and African countries. The aim is to encourage additional collaboration among key stakeholders.
